Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remark that selling pakodas was part of job creation continues to draw protest from various quarters.

On Sunday too, ‘Modi pakodas’, ‘Amit Shah pakodas’ and ‘Yeddy pakodas’ were sold by some college students at the Mekhri Circle, a few metres away from the Palace Grounds, where Mr Modi was to address the BJP’s Parivartana rally.

Wearing degree robes, the protestors sold pakodas to the passers-by at Rs 10 plus GST. However, the police took them into custody before the Prime Minister’s arrival.

Recently in an interview to a TV news channel, Mr Modi had said that selling pakodas is also a form of employment and can be seen in the light of ‘job creation’. Even an individual selling pakodas at a roadside stall earns Rs 200 a day and is employed, Mr Modi had remarked while commenting about job creation.

“Selling pakodas or tea isn’t bad, but you don’t need degrees for that. The Prime Minister should speak with responsibility,” a protester said. Recently, a group of youth from Karnataka for Employment (KFE) had set up makeshift pakoda stalls in front of the state BJP office in Malleswaram to protest against the remark.
