THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Days after calling off his protest over brother's custodial death, S.R. Sreejith resumed his stir in front of Secretariat on Sunday.

Though he expressed happiness in the CBI probe until now, he said that government should ensure that suspected police officers should be suspended. High court had stayed the suspension of suspected police officers and Sreejith's original demands included their suspension.

"Life will be difficult for me as long as the accused police officers are serving the department. Conspiracies are still going on against me and my family," he said.

A day earlier when Sreejith was hospitalised the flex boards kept by him in front of Secretariat were removed. Some protestors who questioned this were asked to mind their own business by police.

"I am satisfied with the CBI probe and hope it will progress in a right direction," he added. Sreejith was hospitalised after 783 days of protest due to poor health condition caused by hunger strike that lasted over a month. He had spent nearly five days in the hospital before returning to strike.

His brother Sreejeev was taken into custody by the Parassala police in 2014 for an alleged mobile phone theft. He died days later at a hospital and police officials maintained that he had consumed poison.

In 2016, a Police Complaint Authority investigation found that Sreejeev's death was caused by custodial torture as alleged by his family. Sreejith's strike has become an internet sensation and gained public support.
