Kerala government focus on prevention than treatment, says CM Pinarayi Vijayan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said that the state government’s health policy focuses more on prevention rather than treatment of the disease. Launching ‘Arogya Jagratha’ – the state government’s state-wide campaign which aims at combating communicable diseases at a function held at Tagore Theatre here, Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan urged everyone work together in our day-to-day fight against the prevention of communicable diseases.
He said that the state faced the worst challenges in terms of health in the past year. He said that Nipah Virus and flood taught us to face the worst effectively and successfully.
Appreciating the health department, the Chief Minister said that even after the worst floods there was no major disease outbreak of waterborne diseases or leptospirosis in the state.
He said that Arogya Jagratha - the year-round campaign was launched last year in the wake of growing number of communicable diseases and death due to them.
He said that the campaign aims at combating the communicable disease with public participation. Ministers and elected representatives will lead the campaign, which focuses on source reduction activities, scientific waste management, and safe drinking water.
Health Minister K.K. Shylaja and other ministers including E. Chandrashekaran, A.C. Moidheen, K. Krishnan Kutty and Ramachan-dran Kadannapally took part in the function.
