PWA postpones public meet for students' sake
According to the meeting organisers, the public meeting was scheduled to begin at 10 am in Clock Tower Ground in Ulundurpet.
Chennai: In a gesture towards students appearing for plus-2 examination, People’s Welfare Alliance on Friday postponed its public meeting by three hours to not disturb students appearing for the examination in a government school near the meeting venue at Ulundurpet in Villupuram.
According to the meeting organisers, the public meeting was scheduled to begin at 10 am in Clock Tower Ground in Ulundurpet.
The meeting was to be addressed by MDMK general secretary Vaiko, CPI (M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan, CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan and VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan.
When the organisers of the meeting was informed about the public examination to be held in Government Girls Higher Secondary School which is 500 m away from the venue, they took up the issue with leaders.
Mr Vaiko immediately asked to postpone the meeting to 1 pm so that the students are not affected by it, said CPI(M) state committee member G. Anandan. He also said that speakers were turned off during duration of the examination.
The meeting, which begin at 1 pm, went on till 3 pm, he said, adding that leaders after the meeting headed to Tindivanam for a rally. The third phase of the PWA’s election campaign will end in Chengelpet with a public meeting on Friday evening.
With the dates for the state polls announced, the campaign by various parties is set to pick up in the coming days coinciding with the public examination.
