The petitioners sought for a direction to the state school education authorities to exempt students belonging to other states and having different mother tongues from writing the Tamil language exam.

Hyderabad: The pass percentage of 36.4 in the degree first year first semester exams appears to show that students have found the new Choice Based Credit System difficult to write in its inaugural year.

Girls had a very high pass percentage of 64.46. Osmania University declared the results Saturday. Nearly 75,000 students from 402 colleges wrote the exams.

Semester exams are generally considered to be easier than the annual exams.

“There are various reasons for the low pass percentage. Students, especially boys found the new format difficult. They had to write new subjects like environmental science apart from core subjects,” said Prof. M. Kumar, OU Controller of Exams.
