Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ruling-BJD on Monday launched its preliminary activities to prepare its poll manifesto.

From Tuesday, the regional party ruling the state since 2000 will launch a campaign to gather public opinion and suggestions that can be incorporated in its manifesto.

Informing about the party’s plans, BJD leader Arun Sahoo said a campaign titled ‘Ghare Ghare Sankha, Mataamata Diyanti Apana, Paalana Karanti Naveen’ (Conch in every house, you give your opinion, Naveen obliges) will be launched on the birth anniversary of former chief minister Biju Patnaik on Tuesday.

As a part of the programme, party members, especially women members, will undertake door-to-door visits to gather views and expectations from 86 lakh households before preparing the poll manifesto.

Terming the BJP government at the Centre as ‘jumla’ government, Mr Sahoo said while other parties across the country have failed to fulfil the promises made in their poll manifesto, the Odisha government has fulfilled almost all the promises.

Meanwhile, the Odisha Congress also kick-started its process to prepare the poll manifesto and its leaders are visiting various districts to meet students, intellectuals, Self Help Groups (SHGs) and people from all walks of life.

Similarly, members of the BJP poll manifesto committee are holding meetings at the district level to collect suggestions from people at the grassroots. Besides, the party has been gathering feedback through a website.

In yet another development, the state Congress announced that if it comes to power in the coming Assembly elections, it would to provide marriage kits to all young girls who are going to get married.
