Thanjavur: Farmers staged a demonstration before the Thanjavur district collectorate here on Monday, demanding payment of crop insurance compensation to all farmers for the year 2017-18.

They also demanded waiver of all crop loans borrowed by them from Primary Agriculture Co-operative Credit Societies (PACCS).

Kakarai R. Sukumaran, state vice-president of Thamizhaga Vivasaya Sangangalin Kootiyakkam, who led the agitation said that crop insurance compensation has been released to societies but many of them have not yet disbursed them. Many farmers are also yet to get Gaja cyclone relief amount. "We have submitted a petition to the district collector Mr. A. Annadurai in this connection," Sukumaran said.
