Compost units must for gated homes across Hyderabad
Gated communities get April end as deadline.
Hyderabad: After making compost units mandatory in city hotels and restaurants, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to make them compulsory in all gated communities across the city.
The deadline for this operation has been set as April end. The civic body, during December last year, issued orders making it mandatory for bulk waste generators such as hotels and restaurants in the city to establish a compost unit inside their premises. Citing the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, issued by the Union Government, the corporation has asked hotels and restaurants generating more than 50 kilogrammes of waste per day to set up compost units.
The GHMC commissioner has instructed assistant medical officers for health (AMoH)s and deputy commissioners in all circles to ensure that the compost units would be installed in every gated community. He also asked them enlist the help of sanitation workers and ground level staff from other wings to ensure 100 percent compost unit installation in all circles.
