THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was a dream come true for 68-year-old Elsy Chenamala, a resident of Kaithakolly in Kalpetta, to meet Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi at the temporary helipad set up at SKMJ High School ground in Kalpetta.

An asthma patient, she was in Kalpetta to meet a doctor at a private hospital when a woman journalist from Bengaluru noticed her.

She was overawed of the visit of the Gandhis and expressed her desire to meet the duo.

She knew it's impossible when the woman journalist offered to arrange a meeting.

The news reached Rahul Gandhi, and his SPG team asked her to meet at the temporary helipad, and she met them with her daughter Priya and granddaughter Devika.

“We came to know of the meeting of Elsy and her family only at the helipad," K. P. Anil Kumar, KPCC general secretary and the media coordinator of Rahul Gandhi campaign in Wayanad, told DC.

"It's indeed a dream come true for them to take photos. It also showed the duo’s simplicity, and they were seen beaming while journalists clicked pictures," Mr Anil Kumar  said.
