Tirupati: The long-awaited 80-feet Master Plan Road, one of the 14 roads being developed by the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT), was opened to traffic on Wednesday.

MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy inaugurated the Chintalachenu master-plan road at Annamaiah Marg Junction here along with Mayor R. Sireesha, deputy mayor Bhumana Abhinay and MCT commissioner Anupama Anjali. They released pigeons into the air to mark the inauguration.

The 1.8-km road, laid at a cost of Rs 6.30 crore, will help ease traffic congestion in Tirupati to a large extent. It links the MS Subbu Lakshmi Circle with Chintalachenu and Renigunta Roads.

The MLA said a new chapter in development of Tirupati town has begun with the construction of the new master-plan roads. “MCT has resolved to widen the congested Chintalachenu stretch as a solution to the long-pending traffic problems of the residents in the region,” he said.

The new road is named after Samavaya the Pallava queen, who presented a Bhoga Srinivasa idol that was then consecrated in the Tirumala temple.

The MLA said the civic body has been developing 13 new master plan roads including Chintalachenu road to improve road connectivity across the city.

“Due to the absence of adequate road connectivity, the areas on the eastern outskirts were left underdeveloped for years. Residents of about a dozen settlements have been suffering. These new roads will benefit those areas and end the congestion on the existing city roads,” Bhumana said.

MCT chief Anupama Anjali said the civic body developed the Chintalachenu master plan road at a cost of '6.50 crore and Annamaiah Marg at a cost of '7.25 crore to decongest city roads and speed up the city's development.
