Catholic Congress gears up for fete
The conference will be over formally on May 14.
Kochi: Catholic Congress, considered as the political arm of the Catholic Church in the state, is gearing up for a show of strength marking the centenary of the organisation in Thrissur. The four-day centenary conference beginning on May 11 will see massive rally on May 13. The conference will be over formally on May 14.
Thalasserry archdiocese Metropolitan George Njaralakkattu will flag off the rally beginning from Thrissur Municipal Stadium. Participants from each diocese will attend the rally with individual banners. Cardinal George Alenchery Major Archbishop of Syro-Malabar Church will inaugurate the great convergence, the office-bearers of the Catholic Congress told reporters in Kochi on Friday.
Supreme Court judge Justice Kurien Joseph will deliver the keynote address at the conference. ‘Secularism for the progress of the country’ is the slogan of the centenary conference, said Tony Joseph, general secretary of the Catholic Congress.
Thrissur archbishop Andrews Thazhathu will deliver the declaration of the centenary conference. A slew of senior members of the Syro-Malabar clergy will be attending the conference. The conference will be marked by cultural events, global working committee meeting of the organisation and several other programmes.
