Nine dead and paddy worth Rs 300 crore damaged due to rains in Telangana

Over 1.16 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in market yards and paddy procurement centres has been damaged.

The decision, taken by the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, comes less than a year before next general election.

Hyderabad: The state government has put the death toll on account of flash rains that lashed the state on Thursday at nine. The state government has announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to each of the affected families.

Besides, as per preliminary estimates, crops over an extent of 7 lakh acres have been damaged in the state.  Over 1.16 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in market yards and paddy procurement centres has been damaged. 

The worth of the paddy damaged has been put at Rs 300 cr.
