Lessen farm input cost, increase production: Minister

KHAMMAM: Agriculture minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy said farmers should follow the best methods in agriculture that reduce input costs and give them more returns.

Participating in various development programmes in Khammam district like the opening of Rythu Vedika at Nayakangudem and a primary agricultural cooperative society at Jakkepalli Krishi Vignana Kendram at Wyra, the minister pointed out that 70 per cent of people in the state are still dependent on agriculture. It is the responsibility of every stakeholder in the sector to identify best methods to enhance production.

“The farmers should always think of less input costs and more production concept,” he emphasised.

The minister said the government has set up Rythu Vedikas in various villages to make farmers aware of new methods of farming. Sharing of information and knowledge will help them get latest technology that is being adopted by some sections of farmers, he pointed out.

Niranjan Reddy said agricultural extension officers are available to every farmer for advice on crops. This has benefitted many farmers in Telangana, he underlined. He stated that some farmers had even been able to send their children abroad with money earned from agriculture.

The minister said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is giving top priority to agriculture and irrigation water. As a result, he emphasised that Telangana has reached second place in the country in terms of farm production.
