Wall collapses, 4-year-old injured in Bengaluru
A four-year-old girl was severely injured when a compound wall collapsed on her in Vittal Nagar near ISRO Layout.
Bengaluru: Gusty winds and a strong spell rain on Saturday afternoon caused widespread damage in South Bengaluru, severely hampering the routine of citizens.
A four-year-old girl was severely injured when a compound wall collapsed on her in Vittal Nagar near ISRO Layout. The injured, Anitha, is the daughter of a construction worker Mallamma, who is from Kalaburagi.
Anitha was at her makeshift shed along with her elder sister when their mother was away at work close to the shed. The neighbours offered shelter to the girls on noticing that the rains were heavy, but immediately after the compound wall came crashing down on the child. The girl was rushed to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health in Jayanagar. Anitha's condition is said to be stable.
Meanwhile, several homes in low-lying areas were flooded with rain water mixed with sewage in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Sarakki Layout, Kumaraswamy Layout, Hosakerihalli, ISRO Layout, Bannerghatta Road, Madiwala and Padmanabhanagar.
BBMP officials said that a compound wall of Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering collapsed on Saturday afternoon, severely damaging two parked cars.
Trees were uprooted in JP Nagar, Kumaraswamy Layout and Viveknagar, while traffic came to a grinding halt on Bannerghatta Road, Kadirenahalli underpass, Outer Ring Road, Madiwala and surrounding roads.
Commuters crossing underpasses were the worst hit as bikers had to wade through knee-deep waters. The BBMP officials said that there were no casualties.
