Kaala producers seek protection, file HC plea

BENGALURU: With various pro-Kannada organisations strongly against actor Rajinikanth's recent statement on the Cauvery issue, while pressing for a ban on his upcoming film Kaala, the makers of the film – Wunderbar Company, the production company along with the Tamil superstar's daughter Aishwarya, and his son-in-law Dhanush, have approached the High Court filing a petition, seeking protection during the release of the film across the state and in Bengaluru.

They have made the State Government, Home department, the head of the state police, Bengaluru city police commissioner, Central Board of Film Certification, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce as respondents in their plea before the HC.

The matter is expected to taken up for hearing on Tuesday before the single judge bench – Justice G. Narendar.

The petitioners expressed apprehension over the release of the film while citing a report wherein the KFCC chairman Sa Ra Govind has reportedly said that the film Kaala will not be allowed to be screened in the state. Expressing displeasure over the recent statement of Rajinikanth with regard to Cauvery issue, various pro-Kannada organisations had pressed the film chamber to ban the film in the state.

They have sought police protection to the distributors of the film, the fans associations of Rajinikanth during the publicity and the release of the film.
