TN fares better than last year: Chennai girl gets 12th national rank in Neet

Chennai: Chennai student K. Keerthana has secured the all-India 12th rank in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test with 676 out of 720 marks.
CBSE declared the results of common medical entrance test a day in advance on Monday. Of 12.69 lakh students who appeared for Neet this year, 7.14 lakh students qualified in the exam. From Tamil Nadu, out of 1,14,602 students, 45,336 students (39.55%) qualified — an increase of around 12,000 students compared to last year. Last year, 32,570 of 83,859 candidates from Tamil Nadu had qualified.
This year, the number of students appearing for the exam also increased by 30%. Kalpana Kumari from Bihar topped the exam with 691 out of 720 marks.
“The Neet exam was easy and I was sure getting over 600 marks,” Tamil Nadu topper K. Keerthana said. She had been preparing for the exam for the last two years at Aakash coaching centre in Ashok Nagar.
“I want to become an ophthalmologist, but that might change. I would like to join Madras Medical College, but will decide after AIIMS and JIPMER entrance exam results,” she said.
She got 494 out of 500 in her CBSE class 12 board exams. Both her parents are serving doctors.
He said the preparation for Neet exam and board exam is completely different as Neet questions are more application-oriented. “I prepared for Neet from my class 12. It is difficult to prepare for both the exams. Though many students found physics tough this year, I found it easy and Chemistry had many twisted questions,” he added. He is hoping to study either in Madras Medical College or in Stanley Medical College. He scored 1,142 out of 1,200 in his plus 2 board exams.
J.Charan, a student from K.C. Sankaralinga Nadar Higher Secondary School, a government-aided school in Old Washermenpet has secured 413 marks in the Neet exam. “I found Neet exam easy due to the coaching provided by our school. I studied NCERT biology book and Arihant Chemistry book for preparing for Neet,” Charan told this paper. He wants to pursue MBBS in one of the government medical colleges.
The school had arranged a special one-year Neet coaching for medical aspirants. Another student S.Riyaz Ahmed scored 353 marks.
Among the government school students who took Neet coaching, many students have scored in the range of 200 to 300 marks. When contacted, officials said they are yet to ascertain the statewide details of the performance of government school students in Neet exam.
