Hyderabad: A pilgrimage turned into a tragedy for a family when they met with a road accident on the outer ring road (ORR) in Ghatkesar on Tuesday morning. One died while the other three sustained injuries when their speeding car rammed into a lorry from the rear.

According to Ghatkesar police, Devatha Ramesh (49), his wife Swathi, and younger daughter Siri were on a pilgrimage in Srikalahasthi, AP. They had hired a driver — J Swamy — to drive them around in their car (AP23AL3699).

Around 4 pm on Monday, the family and the driver set out from Srikalahasthi to head back to Toopran, Medak district. They reached the ORR under Ghatkesar PS  limits around 6 am.

On their way to Toopran, the driver of a lorry (AP16TU6867) which was moving ahead of the car suddenly switched lanes from left to right as a result of which, J Swamy lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the lorry from the rear.
