Secunderabad Cantonment Board proposes Rs 227 crore grant for upkeep
For the first time after 1995, the board has proposed for a grant-in-aid budget of Rs 227 crores, in which Rs 100 cr is a deficit budget for 2019-20.
Hyderabad: Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) held its board meeting on Tuesday for the approval of budget estimates of 2019-20 (revised) and for the upcoming year 2020-21. For the first time after 1995, the board has proposed for a grant-in-aid budget of Rs 227 crores, in which Rs 100 crores is a deficit budget for 2019-20.
The budget proposal is required to be submitted to the General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC-in-C), Pune under rule 16 of the cantonment Account code 1924 for sanction.
In the proposed budget around Rs 10 crore has been allocated for road works, Rs 9 crores for drainages, Rs 6 crores for water supply, Rs 3 crores for streetlights, Rs 26 crore for health, hygiene and sanitation and others. In the board meeting, the members have also demanded to increase the budget allocation for certain important aspects like streetlights and sanitation.
The board members also raised the issue that many colonies in certain wards are getting water only once in week despite paying high tariffs, and it was also mentioned that the Cantonment Board is in talks with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board for better water supply and a need for proper survey was also raised to identify the problematic areas.
