Adilabad: In a tragic incident, a Class V student died of asphyxiation after his neck got caught in the rope of a swing on which he was playing at his home on Monday.

Police said the parents of Rushi, 10, were not at their home in Dandepalli near here when the incident occurred.

His mother Manjula is the local mandal praja parishad territorial committee member. Ms Manjula and her husband Rajamallu were busy enforcing the bandh opposing the merger of Dandepalli in the newly proposed Nirmal district.

By the time it was noticed, it was too late to save Rushi, police sources said. The parents rushed back on being informed of the incident.
