Bengaluru: Sony junction to be traffic-jam free?
BBMP engineers to take up the road survey work immediately.
Bengaluru: The nightmare of nerve-wracking traffic jams at the Sony World Junction on Outer Ring Road may soon be a thing of the past as the connecting Challaghatta Road is going to be widened soon. Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George on Monday instructed BBMP officials to give transfer of development rights (TDR) to land owners to acquire land for road widening.
After inspecting the Challaghatta-Wind Tunnel Road on Monday, he said, “Citizens who travel to Koramangala, HSR Layout and surrounding areas from Indiranagar and Domlur are stuck in traffic for several hours. Most of them are IT/BT employees and the traffic moves very slowly on this road. The road should be widened soon.”
He told the BBMP engineers to take up the road survey work immediately. Later, on Wind Tunnel Road, he noticed a burning garbage pile and took the chief engineer (Mahadevapura zone) to task. “What are junior officers doing? Why can’t they keep an eye on managing solid waste? Whoever is the garbage contractor, impose a penalty on him,” Mr George said.
On Murgeshpalya Main Road, he noticed heaps of garbage coming onto the road, and enquired with officials how many compactors, auto-tippers and pourakarmikas worked in the ward. He slammed the officials for not clearing garbage despite having sufficient men and machinery.
Indiranagar residents ask for indoor stadium
When the minister visited the playground on 4th Main Road in Indiranagar First Stage, several local residents met Mr George and requested him that a playground in the area should be turned into an indoor stadium. They said that the ground was fit for playing basketball and football, but BMRCL officials wanted to construct a Namma Metro office on the grounds. They urged that the ground should not be used for other purposes.
George directed BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad to prepare a report to convert the ground into a stadium and accommodate the Metro office on the stadium premises. “Both the agencies will share the cost and the office can come up on the top floors of the stadium,” he said.
