Plagiarism: Varsities warn PhD scholars
All the Universities of the state, except Bangalore University, have already implemented the scheme.
Bengaluru: Plagiarism is one of the common complaints heard against research scholars of various universities. But over the past few days M.Phil and PhD guides of all the universities, except Bangalore University, are directing their students to take extra care about their thesis/research work, thanks to the compulsory plagiarism checks by the authorities. All the Universities of the state, except Bangalore University, have already implemented the scheme.
Higher education department sources said that all the universities and autonomous institutes are directed to verify the theses submitted by their research scholars through the special anti-plagiarism software provided under the Shodhganga project. As per the decision taken by the UGC, reference materials used in any thesis or research paper should not cross 30% references. “In the state, it has now been made compulsory. We will write to all universities to ensure that all theses be subjected to the check," an officer said.
Bangalore University faculty said that the university is yet to start the check. “This software has been supplied to all universities. But BU is yet to start using it,” a faculty member said .
BU VC B. Thimmegowda agreed that the anti-plagiarism drive is yet to be implemented in the BU.
