5-km stretch of Metro to have heritage precinct
These stations and footpath area will have a heritage look, classic patterns of tiles, stone flooring.
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) will develop a heritage precinct on the 5-km stretch from Police Control Room to Rangmahal Junction in Chaderghat by the Hyderabad Metro Rail. The stretch will cover five stations Assembly, Nampally, Gandhi Bhavan, Osmania Medical College and MGBS.
These stations and the footpath area will have a heritage look, classic patterns of tiles, stone flooring. Restoration of heritage structures and buildings along the route will be taken up.
HMRL managing director N.V.S Reddy said, “Cobble stones will be used and the furniture will have a vintage look. Electrical fittings interspersed with sculptures will be a part of the heritage development.”
For the work to be carried out, illegal encroachments and constructions on government lands, public spaces and footpaths will have to be removed from Nampally, Osmania Medical College and Chaderghat. There are many hawkers and small shops along this stretch. The stretch from Nampally to Chaderghat has high density traffic.
