Hyderabad: Not happy with the façade designs provided by a private agency, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to carry out another survey of the surroundings of the Charminar.

A senior GHMC official said that Lea Associates had been hired to design the façades of arches and shops in and around Charminar and the fonts for uniform signboards for all commercial establishments for Rs 35 crore, but the state government is unhappy with the designs and the long time it has taken, and so it has decided to conduct a survey on its own and use another design consultant who will be paid Rs 2 crore.

The survey will begin in 15 days and be completed in one month.

Painting of the four arches around the Charminar started in December and will be completed next month at a cost of Rs 87 lakh. The restoration of the clock tower at Mahaboob Chowk is also ongoing.
