20 failed to rectify the fire safety in the stipulated time given by the civic body.
Hyderabad: The GHMC on Thursday sealed 20 coaching centres in city for the lack of fire safety. The GHMC’s Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) wing officials said that they had already issued notices for over 200 coaching centres which were not in compliance with the fire safety standards set by the corporation.
Of them, 20 failed to rectify the fire safety in the stipulated time given by the civic body. Officials said that they would shut down about 200 coaching centres in Ameerpet within a week.
The civic body has asked management of all the institutes in the area to ensure that adequate fire safety measures are in place, failing which they would be forced to shut down or even have their trade licenses revoked.
Authorities gave the institutes a two-week deadline and said that if they did not install fire safety measures by July 15, they would be sealed, and can only reopen after meeting the norms and should be in compliance with the GHMC Act.
EVDM director Viswajit Kampati said that GHMC on Thursday sealed 20 coaching centres and would shut down other 200 out of 650 by next week if they do not rectify the fire safety in their respective centres. He said that the all coaching centres will remain closed until they have the specified the fire safety measures in the public interest.
