Chennai airport to Chengalpet elevated road on track
Feasibility study has been entrusted to private firm by CMDA.
Chennai: The detailed project report for the elevated corridor from Chennai airport to Chengalpet tollplaza is to be prepared by the state government after the submission of the feasibility report by CMDA.
The feasibility study for the elevated corridor for a distance of 40 kilometre along the NH-45 has been entrusted to a private firm by CMDA. The finalisation of alignments are in process, as per the policy note tabled by state highways minister K. Palaniswami in the Assembly on Thursday.
Besides, the detailed project report for the elevated corridor from Taramani to Siruseri for a total length of 45 kilometre had been submitted. The technical expert committee had reviewed the report and offered their remarks and the final report is under preparation.
The phase II of the Chennai Outer Ring Road will be completed in December 16. The six lane road for a distance of 30.50 km from Nemilicheri to Minjur at a cost of Rs 1,075 crore has to be completed by September 2016. But, due to heavy rainfall in November and December 2015 resulting in heavy floods affecting the project work, it was delayed.
The widening works of ECR into four lane is being carried out and 77 per cent of works had been completed.
Utility mapping on the proposed Chennai Peripheral Ring Road from Ennore to Mamallapuram is being carried out.
The project report had been prepared and the estimated cost of the scheme is Rs 12,301 crore. The proposal for external funding had been sent to the Union government for consideration.
The works for link road from Rajakilpakkam to Tambaram, ECR-Neelankarai are in progress. Railway overbridge construction works are going on at Perungalathur, Korattur, Minjur, while railway under bridges are being built Thirusulam, Tiruvottiyur and Wimco Nagar, besides a subway at Chrompet.
As far as river bridges are concerned, a three lane bridge across Cooum near Aminjikarai and widening of high level bridge in Mount Poonamallee road near Ramapuram will be taken up. However, the skywalk proposal to connect Central station, Park station and GH was dropped since the ongoing pedestrian works is a better alternative.
