Hyderabad: If Trump has his way and the US Senate passes the cutting down of immigration visas, the most affected in India would be hopefuls from Gujarat and Punjab rather than the two Telugu states.

According to experts, green card holders from TS and AP apply sponsorship visas mostly for their aged parents, while those from states like Punjab and Gujarat apply for their parents and unmarried siblings too.

Overseas travel expert Shubhaker Alapati stated that green card holders from these states bring in their siblings for a living in low skilled jobs or engage in self-employment, with jobs like cab driving.

“Most of the Indian cab drivers in New York, Las Vegas, Texas, Illinois, and California come from these two states. So, these two states will be the most hit if US restricts entry of family members under immigration visa category,” Alapati said.

Dr M. Raj Kumar of Telangana NRI Parents’ Association felt that anti-foreign reforms or proposals being introduced by US President Donald Trump ever since he assumed off ice has become a source of worry for Indian parents.

“Our children had gone with plenty of hopes and ambitions. But every month he is coming up with a new proposal that is not only affecting the morale of our children, but also family members living in India,” he said.

adding that US's position as a dream destination will dip slowly in the coming years if such decisions are approved.
