Transgenders, sex workers to protest against Manipur outrage
HYDERABAD: Transgenders and sex workers from the city will come in support of the victims of Manipur outrage by staging a silent peaceful protest at the Mother Teresa statue near Keyes High School in Secunderabad on Tuesday. Also participating in the event, being organised by the “I Need Help' group, will be those affected by leprosy.
They condemned the brutalities and inhuman acts in the strife-torn north eastern state.
On what made them take the decision, Asifa Nisha, a transgender, said “Women were made to walk naked and humiliated. Are we living in a barbaric age? We cannot believe that we are living in such an inhuman society.”
Another transgender, Rapeti Jasmine, said, “We can empathise with the victims. It has been almost hundred days since the time Manipur has been on a boil. There is no government machinery that is trying to put an end to this tyranny.”
“Our community discussed and questioned ourselves as to why we were doing nothing. We decided that the least we could do was to come together and stage a silent protest,” Jasmine said.
