Visakhapatnam: A three-year-old boy was killed when part of a slab and a parapet wall collapsed on him at Surya Chandra Pre-School in Visalakshinagar, within the limits of Arilova Police Station, on Monday. The boy, Koda Gowtham, was the son of Koda Gopal Rao, an armed reserve constable working under the Visakhapatnam Rural Police, and a resident of Kailasagiri. He had joined the school about five months ago.
On Monday, the boy was dropped at school by his father, and the incident occurred at around 10.45 am. Sources said that the boy had been on his way to the washroom when the slab and the parapet wall, which had become weak after the recent rains, collapsed on him. The boy sustained severe injuries to his head and was shifted to a corporate hospital in the Venkojipalem area. He breathed his last while being treated at the hospital.
S. Rajesh, the Sub-Inspector of Arilova Police Station, said that negligence on the part of the school management had cost an innocent boy his life. He said that the school was being run in an old building. “Based on the complaint filed by the boy’s father Gopala Rao, we have registered a case under Section 304 (II) of the IPC for negligence leading to death. An investigation is underway to arrest the people responsible for the incident,” he said.
