Floating ration shop launched in Kuttanad

Alappuzha: There is no food scarcity in the flood-ravaged Kuttanad, according to Civil Supplies Minister P.Thilothaman. He was flagging of the newly-introduced floating ration shop in the flood-hit Kainakary panchayat.

“The food distribution is being held effectively in relief camps in the state without any complaints.  Damaged grain stored in flooded ration shops will be burnt. People who lost ration cards will be issued ration if they produce their mobile number. As all the 12 Maveli stores were flooded, two more floating Maveli stores have been introduced in Kuttanad,” he said.

Three ration shops in two boats have currently been made operational in Kainkary. Apart from free ration,  5 kg of rice  is also allotted in the flood-hit areas. As many as 12 lakh families have been given 5 kg of rice. The date of last month's ration has been extended  till September 8, he said.

Sub-collector Krishna Teja, supply officer Hariprasad and people's representatives attended the function.
