Iran oil, Russian arms and Pakistan on 2+2 agenda
India is hoping for a waiver from Washington on both counts.
New Delhi: With the 2+2 dialogue at the foreign and defence ministers’ level to take place in New Delhi on Thursday amid the threat of US sanctions over import of weaponry from Russia and oil from Iran, sources said on Tuesday that India hoped the US would not forget its strategic relations with New Delhi. India is hoping for a waiver from Washington on both counts.
The issue of oil imports from Iran, the proposed S-400 missile deal with Russia, “stocktaking” on the proposed Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement pact that will enable the sale of armed drones by the US to India, are all expected to figure during the 2+2 dialogue. US secretary of state Mike Pompeo and defence secretary Jim Mattis will reach India Wednesday evening for the dialogue.
