Kozhikode: Girl fatally run over by train

Kozhikode: A girl student was run over by a passenger train at Payyoli here as she was walking along the railway track. The incident was reported on Tuesday at around 8.30 am while she was on her way to school.

The deceased has been identified as 12-year-old Hamna Fathima, daughter of Mannamkundil Nazar, hailing from Payyoli. The police here said that the girl had failed to notice the train approaching her. Hamna is a seventh standard student of Trikattoor Upper Primary School, Payyoli. She died on the spot soon after the accident. The train was detained for nearly 10 minutes.

The body has been shifted to the Payyoli general hospital mortuary and will be handed over to the family after the post- mortem, said the Police.
