ACB raids five government officials in Karnataka

Three raids were conducted in Bengaluru, while the other two were were in Bidar and Tumakuru.

In Bengaluru, the office and residence of Kumarvelu, a Senior Health Officer in the BBMP Chickpet office, was raided.

BENGALURU: Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted simultaneous raids on the offices and residences of five government officials across the state. Three raids were conducted in Bengaluru, while the other two were were in Bidar and Tumakuru.

The search operations were launched on Tuesday morning simultaneously at several places and continued till evening. In Bengaluru, the office and residence of Kumarvelu, a Senior Health Officer in the BBMP Chickpet office, was raided. A team of ACB officials raided his house at Bilekahalli on Bannerghatta Road and his office.

In another raid in the city, the house of D. Babu, a group ‘D’ employee at the Assistant Executive Engineer office of the BBMP in Shivajinagar, was searched. His residence in William’s Town and Nandini Layout and his office were raided.

The ACB team also raided the house of S.L. Sikandar, District Manager of Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation Ltd. His house in Rahmath Nagar and his office at Visveswaraya Centre were raided.

The ACB team in Tumakuru raided the office and residence of R. Subramanya, who is Joint Director in the Social Welfare Department in Tumakuru. Besides his house, his brother’s house in Pavagada, his sister-in-law’s house in Davangere, and some relatives’ houses were also searched.

In Bidar, a raid was conducted on the property belonging to Jagannath, an Assistant Executive Engineer of Panchayat Raj Engineering Sub-Division in Aurad taluk of Bidar. His residence in Akkamahadevi Colony, the commercial complex in Shivanagar and the water purification unit he allegedly runs in Naubad were raided.

During the raids, the officials seized several documents related to the properties of the accused government officials. “We are yet to scrutinise the documents to find out the amount of disproportionate assets they have amassed. It will take a few days,” a senior ACB official said.
