Woman falls into lift well at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad
Ms Potamma had been admitted in the hospital on Tuesday morning for neurosurgery.
Hyderabad: A 65-year-old woman broke her leg on Tuesday afternoon after she fell into a lift well at Gandhi Hospital, mistaking it to be a toilet entrance. Ms Potamma had been admitted in the hospital on Tuesday morning for neurosurgery.
Her husband Ramulu said, “I had stepped out for lunch when she went out looking for the toilet. She came to the ground floor and asked a few people who directed her to go further left. There she opened the door of the lift, stepped inside and fell down. Her cries alerted the housekeeping and nursing staff who pulled her out.”
The lifts in Gandhi Hospital are under repair. A source said, “The old lifts which have the old wooden structures are being repaired first. There are no signboards displayed by the contractor due to which this confusion took place. It is also to be seen how the patient moved out from the ward and came to the ground floor.”
Doctors and the hospital administration have asked the ward in-charges to be careful and look into the patients’ demands. Hospital superintendent Dr J.K. Reddy said that they were looking into the lapses and had asked the contractor to put up signboards wherever repair works were being carried out to ensure public safety.
