Karti Chidambaram can't leave India till October 9, says Supreme Court

Earlier the Additional Solicitor General appearing for the CBI, submitted that the LoC was issued only to prevent him from going abroad.

Karti Chidambaram on Friday told the Supreme Court that there was no question of him leaving the country to evade investigations.

New Delhi: Karti Chidambaram, son of former finance minister P. Chidambaram, facing charges of alleged irregularities in the grant of approval by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board cannot leave India till October 9, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday.

A three-judge bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A.M. Kanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud told senior counsel Kapil Sibal, appearing for Karti Chidambaram that the court would consider the plea to quash the Look out Circular on October 9 and till then the LoC would remain in force.

Earlier the Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for the CBI, submitted that the LoC was issued only to prevent him from going abroad and he defended such a move intended to make him participate in the investigation.
