The 55-year-old cop was ailing and had sought transfer.
Bengaluru: Tension prevailed at the Traffic Management Centre on Infantry Road on Wednesday, when a 55-year-old Assistant Sub Inspector allegedly attempted suicide, by popping over 10 sleeping pills. He was rushed to nearby hospital where his condition is said to be critical.
The victim has been identified as Nagalakkana Gowda. Preliminary investigation reveals that Gowda, who is attached to Mico Layout traffic station, had an argument with Assistant Admission Officer in the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the Traffic Management Centre.
According to a police official, Gowda was facing health issues for a long time wanted a transfer to the Traffic Management Centre.
Therefore he had approached the Admission officer Mahadeva Shetty and apprised him about the same. Gowda had met Shetty several times in this regard, but nothing seems to have happened. On Wednesday afternoon, Gowda had come to the traffic management centre and met Shetty again. The duo had an issue over the transfer requisition, following which an irate Gowda took out pills from his pocket and consumed them.
He soon collapsed following which tension prevailed in the traffic centre. He was immediately hospitalized and admitted to the intensive care unit, police said.
“Gowda is undergoing treatment and the department is praying for his speedy recovery. Once he is fit to issue a statement, we will record it. If anyone is found guilty suitable action will be taken,” a senior official said.
