Please Ms Mayor, Install segregated garbage bins on our streets!
Residents, recognising a kindred spirit pointed out the flaw in leaving it all to the pourakarmikas.
Bengaluru: After reducing the IT capital's Garden tag to Garbage, by replacing its garbage removal system to the inefficient door to door collection scheme that only led to piles of garbage being left to rot at every street corner, free food for dogs and rats, the city might finally have a mayor who gets the basics of house-keeping! Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun, who recently did a tour of the city - on a motorbike at night - homed in on the garbage dumped indiscriminately on the streets and confronted civic officials.
Residents, recognising a kindred spirit pointed out the flaw in leaving it all to the pourakarmikas. They said they had no choice but to leave garbage - in banned plastic bags- on the side of the road as they had to go to work and could not wait for the pourakarmikas! Ask the pourakarmikas to report for work early, the Mayor said, or reinstall dustbins. The second option, Ms Mayor, choose the second! The street bins were reintroduced in certain localities in the city last year.
