Tirupati: Despite the enactment of stringent laws after the Delhi gang-rape case, with an aim to curb such crimes, nothing appears to control potential rapists.
In yet another shocking incident, a 21-year-old married woman was allegedly raped in Chittoor district of AP. Though the mishap occurred on Tuesday, it came to light on Thursday after the victim approached the police to register a case against the rapist.
The married woman, who is a native of Gopisetti Palli in Karveti Nagaram Mandal of Chittoor district, filed an FIR against alleged rapist P. Pandiyan, who belongs to the same village, for allegedly recording a video while he raped her at Pallipattu Pond, near the village.
According to the victim, Pandiyan allegedly blackmailed the woman with the video clip in an attempt to extract money from her and threatened her to visit him often, whenever he ordered.
“The woman also said in the FIR that Pandiyan threatened her saying that if she told anyone about the incident, he would upload the video clip online and forward it to the villagers through Whatsapp,” the police said.
While the accused has been identified, police are yet to arrest him. “We have lodged an FIR and a case has been registered under relevant Sections of the IT Act and the Indian Penal Code. The accused is absconding. We will soon nab him,” P. Srinivasa Rao, sub-inspector of police, Karveti Nagaram, said.
Meanwhile, the victim’s husband had left their home and went missing six months after their marriage, four years ago, as he suffered a mental illness. She has been residing with her parents and taking care of her only child by getting engaged in dairy farming.
