Tirupati laddus to have cashews from Kollam
The public sector cashew production will get a boost as an order of over 1,000 tonnes is expected per year.
KOLLAM: The laddus of Lord Venkateshwara of Tirupati will have an ingredient from God’s Own Country now.
The Tirumala temple authorities have placed a huge order 30 tonnes of processed cashew kernels with Kerala State Cashew Workers Apex Industrial Co-operative Society (Capex) and Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation for Rs 70 crore. The public sector cashew production will get a boost as an order of over 1,000 tonnes is expected per year.
The first truck carrying five tonnes of cashew was flagged off from the Capex factory at Perumpuzha by cashew minister J. Mercykkutty Amma. The minister urged the workers not to interrupt the supply of cashew to the temple.
The KSCDC earned a revenue of Rs 5.5 crore during the Onam season apart from getting Rs 45 lakh from the online trade of cashew.
“The corporation is holding talks to open outlets in temples run by the devaswom board. New outlets will also be opened during the Sabarimala season,” said KSCDC chairman S. Jayamohan.
