Hyderabad: A man driving from Gachibowli to Mehdipatnam on Saturday night claimed that a barricade from the Tolichowki flyover fell on his car and damaged the vehicle.

Stating that he had narrowly escaped a fatal accident, Mr B.E. Kamesh said, “The bonnet of my car was severely damaged. Such accidents are common in the area due to the negligence of the GJMC. He said he had lodged a complaint against this at the Golconda police station.

A GHMC official attributed the accident to Mr Kamesh’s negligence. He said drivers had nine metres of road space, barring the barricaded area. He said that the driver had rammed into the barricade and was blaming the GJHMC.

But this is not the first such incident. In January this year, an iron rod fell from the Malakpet Metro Station and pierced the bonnet of a car. Mr Abdul Aziz, who was at the wheel, filed a complaint against L&T for negligence.

In March last year, a 38-year-old woman was injured when a steel rod fell on her from an overhead Metro Rail site at Nampally.

Ms Uzma Hafeez, a resident of Rein Bazaar, was pillion riding on her husband's motorbike from Nampally to Khairatabad when a steel rod fell from the rail bridge and hit her on the head.

At the time, Metro Rail officials had dubbed it a ‘freak accident’, but the police had registered a case against L&T for negligence and endangering a person’s life.
