Kannur frontrunner in cracking down flex

Kannur: Kannur district is leading in cracking down on the illegal flex and hoardings.
The process began in full swing in all other places after High Court gave an ultimatum on this till October 30. But in Kannur, the fight against plastic started two-and-a-half-years ago led by district collector Mir Mohammed Ali.
“Kannur is the lone district where we have a written agreement with all major political parties to switch on their campaign mode from PVC flex to cloth," says Mr Ali.
"And they are doing it. After banning plastic carry bag and disposables, now it is flex.”
The district administration had launched the initiative with the theme, ‘Health and Environment’.
“As per the HC order, the local body concerned has to take care of the illegal hoardings. The order has been communicated to all the political parties. They were given time to remove the same. If any violation is noticed, it should be alerted and a definite time be given to removing it. Else, we would crack down the boards and slap fine,” elaborated the collector.
According to Kannur Corporation mayor E.P. Lata, the corporation is yet to start slapping fine on the defaulters.
Earlier, Mr Ali had beautifully tapped the World Cup football fever to reach out his message.
When Germany was ousted from the World Cup, he put a post on his Facebook page appealing German fans to remove all the flex put out in the district.
When Argentina and Portugal ended their fight, again he appeared with a hilarious post where Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were seen running, with a caption, “Two running to remove the plastic of Kannur.”
