Hyderabad: The craze for fancy numbers for vehicles brought in a revenue of Rs 27,93,750 to the Khairatabad division of Road Transport Authority in one day. The auction was closed by 4.30 pm on Tuesday. However, the amount is Rs 7 lakh lesser than the amount realised during the previous auction, which was held in October and had brought in around Rs 35 lakh to RTA.

The bidding happens through the manual mode, and whoever is interested in a particular number can come to the zonal office and submit their appeal. If there is a competition for the same number, it would generally go for auction.

This time there were 19 members who were competing for certain fancy numbers, and whoever paid more got the number they wanted.

“Fancy numbers are one of the easy and great sources of revenue to the department,” said Durga Prasad, Khairatabad Zone. The top three bidders alone have contributed a major share of around Rs 17 lakh, and this time the craze was evident for the ‘9’ series.
