Rajahmundry: Illicit ghee unit raided

Food safety authorities collected samples of ghee to be sent for analysis to the state food lab.

Rajahmundry: Vigilance and enforcement authorities, along with food safety, legal metrology and revenue authorities, carried out a raid on an unauthorised ghee making unit identified as Sri Ome Venkata Sai Milk and booked its owner, Kadamati Vijaya Bhaskar, for violations near Hukumpeta in Rajahmundry on Tuesday.

East Godavari vigilance and enforcement SP Reddy Gangadhara Rao said that based on information, they carried out the raid on the establishment and found several violations including no permission from labour department, no invoices for purchase of raw material and sales, no records of sale and purchase, no trade mark, adding chemicals to enhance flavour of the ghee, no packing licence and no lab test being carried for quality. 

Food safety authorities collected samples of ghee to be sent for analysis to the state food lab while legal metrology authorities booked a case for violation of packing licence and improper labelling with no specifications of date of manufacture.
