Solve jumbo-human conflict permanently, says HD Kumaraswamy
He also asked the forest department officials to get experts from other states to capture elephants.
Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has directed the forest department to submit a proposal, for finding a permanent solution to the human-elephant conflict in the state.
Speaking to reporters after meeting with forest department and representatives of elephant affected areas like Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Mr Kumaraswamy asked the forest officials to capture the elephants troubling people and send them to camps.
He also asked the forest department officials to get experts from other states to capture elephants.
At present, the state government has constructed over 71 kms of barricades using rails to prevent the jumbos from straying. The present budgetary allocation of Rs 50 crore is not sufficient for the required 500-600 kms of rail barricades. So, the forest department should submit a proposal for making budgetary allocation for constructing the barricades, he said.
Stating that procuring rails was becoming expensive, Mr Kumaraswamy said that he would make a request to the Railway Minister to provide rails at concessional rates.
