Jail till death for man in pocso case
According to prosecution, the accused took the girl home and subjected her to extreme torture in October 2018.
KASARGOD: The District Additional Sessions Court here on Wednesday sentenced an accused who subjected a 4-year-old girl to sexual abuse, for imprisonment till death.
Though the court found V.S. Raveendran, 46, a native of Nettippadupp, Shankar-ampady, guilty in the case the other day, the punishment was pronounced on Wednesday.
According to prosecution, the accused took the girl home and subjected her to extreme torture in October 2018.
This is the first sentence in the state after the recent amendment to Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court found that the accused can be convicted under Sections ‘376 A and B’ of the Act that came into effect after the amendment of the POCSO Act in April 2018.
The prosecution had examined as many as 22 witnesses during the trial of the case and also produced as many as 23 documents. Registered by Bedakam police, it was DySP Harishchandra Nayik K who had submitted the charge sheet in the case. Adv Prakash Ammannaya appeared for the prosecution.
