No ban on making wine at home: Kerala Excise min

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Excise minister T.P. Ramakrishnan has clarified that making wine at homes for private celebrations has not been banned. There was widespread campaign on social media that the excise department officials would raids homes making wine to be sold it online.

The minister published the clarification on his Facebook page.

Mr Ramakrishnan said that there was illegal manufacture and sale of wine during Christmas and New Year. He said it was not good for society to manufacture and sell wine illegally online .

“Nowhere in the circular issued by the excise department has the manufacture and sale of wine been banned in homes for their private celebrations. Anyone who examines the excise department circular will understand that there is no ban. The news that has been circulating in the media has been wrong,” said Mr Ramakrishnan.

Excise minister has also informed that coinciding with the Christmas and New Year festive season, a special month long enforcement drive will be held from December 5 onwards.
