Kakinada: Civil supplies minister Karumuri Venkata Nageswara Rao and BC Welfare Minister Chelluboyina Srinivasa Venu Gopalakrishna visited the paddyfields in their constituencies where the harvested paddy was heaped on the grounds, on Monday.

Nageswara Rao said the harvested paddy has been carried to the nearest rice mills on a war-footing. He visited Goberu, Kathavapadu in Iragavaram mandal, Manchili, Kanchumarru, Skinnerapuram, Eeduru, Kommara and Paluru villages in Attili mandal in West Godavari district.

He said that, taking into consideration moisture content, steps would be taken for paddy purchase by the rice millers.

He suggested that the millers unload the paddy quickly and provide relief to the farmers.

The paddy in Krishna district would be sent to the Palnadu and Bapatla rice mills as there were fewer numbers of rice mills in Krishna district, he said.

BC welfare minister Venu Gopalakrishna said the farmers who harvested the paddy and dried it on the grounds and the roads, need not worry about their crop, as the government would help them offset any such loss.

He visited the cyclone-affected areas like Vella, Velampalem, Nelaparthipadu and Ganapavaram in Ramachandrapuram mandal and Kunduru village in K Gangavaram mandal along with civil supplies and revenue officials.

He said chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had instructed the officials to purchase the paddy damaged due to the rain.
