Hyderabad: Work on a railway underbridge at Anandbagh and Uttamnagar, that is meant to divert traffic from the railway gate, is crawling past its December 2016 deadline. Traffic gets stuck for 10 to 15 minutes whenever a train passes the railway crossing.

Sources said the railways had finished their part, and it was up to the GHMC to complete the work. Mr K. Mohan Krishna, a resident of Anandbagh, said the construction of the RUB began two years ago and is still continuing.

Asked about the delay, Malkajgiri corporator N. Jagadish Goud said, “The work is getting delayed because the funds released to the roads & building department are not being utilised. Work is progressing faster at the Uttamnagar underbridge, because the funds were released directly to the GHMC.”

A representation has been made to the Hyderabad Mayor to speed up the work.
Mr Gautham S., a resident of Manju Ranga Enclave at Anandbagh, said traffic was being diverted from Tallabasti due to the ongoing work.

“The roads in the basti are so narrow that one car can cross it at a time. Also, there is another underbridge through which every vehicle has to pass,” he said.

Traffic police has been deployed near the basti to avoid traffic congestion. When the police is away, motorists race to find road space and jam traffic, a motorist said.
