Hyderabad: Corporators pulled up for hoardings, fined
Cases filed against leaders under the Defacement Act.
Hyderabad: Municipal administration and urban development minister K. T. Rama Rao on Friday took city corporators to task over the many unauthorised flexies that have come up during the inauguration of the National Park for the specially-abled at Nalgonda crossroads and the indoor stadium at Moosarambagh.
Mr Rao said the corporators concerned would be penalised for erecting flexies, adding that these public representatives should instead be role models for the society.
The GHMC levied a Rs 50,000 penalty on TRS corporator Sunaritha Reddy while former corporator M.D. Aslam Pasha was fined Rs 25,000. Sunaritha Reddy, also daughter-in-law of Maheshwaram MLA Teegala Krishna Reddy, paid the penalty in cheque and former corporator Pasha also paid the fine.
The corporation has filed cases under the Defacement Act.
High court directive
On February 24, 2015, the High Court had instructed political parties not to put up flexies, hoardings and banners at public places. It had also directed GHMC to ensure that all hoardings, flexies and others were removed, and also asked it to impose penalties on violators.
Despite the High Court directions, several political parties had been putting up flexies and hoardings on several occasions, including 2BHK scheme inauguration, party programmes, plenary events and others.
TRS activists erect billboards; MIM makes a hue and cry over missing pictures of its leaders; prevents Deputy Chief Minister from entering the venue.
AIMIM workers protested as the flexies did not include the photos of Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. Mahmood Ali then intervened and asked GHMC officials to remove all the hoardings. The civic body official said that they will take stringent action against the violators and file cases under the Defacement Act.
