Tamil Nadu: Omandurar hospital gets zero delay casualty ward

The special medical team will identify such children and screen them at government medical headquarters.

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami inaugurated 'zero delay casualty ward' at Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Specialty Hospital on Friday.

The 8-bedded AC ward is equipped with round-the-clock oxygen supply, pediatric care facilities and screening medical equipment. Special medical officers and monitoring staff will be allotted for the ward.

Fifteen medical team vehicles were also flagged off by the Chief Minister who would screen school children in all Chennai corporation schools under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakaram (RBSK).

The RBSK scheme aims at early identification and early intervention for children from birth to 18 years to detect- defects at birth, deficiencies, diseases, development delays including disability. 

The special medical team will identify such children and screen them at government medical headquarters.

The  Chief Minister also gave away appointment orders to 390 village nurses and honoured heart transplantation doctors at the hospital who had performed a rare heart transplantation surgery.

CM launches Pongal gift hamper distribution
With the harvest festival of Pongal set to be celebrated on January 14, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday launched distribution of special gift hamper consisting of rice, sugar and sugarcane to beneficiaries.

As a token gesture, Palaniswami distributed the gift hamper to seven beneficiaries at the secretariat here. Officials said the gift hamper would be distributed to 1.84 crore families across the state before Pongal.

Apart from the holders of rice ration card, families of policemen who possess police ration card and those lodged in Sri Lankan refugee camps will be also be provided with the gift hampers.

“1.84 crore families across Tamil Nadu will be benefited through the scheme. The scheme would cost the state Rs 210 crore,” an official statement said here.

Each gift hamper will consist of 2 kg of rice, I kg of sugar, sugarcane, 20 gram cashew, 20 gram dry grapes and five grams of cardamom, the statement said and added that these gifts would be provided through the fair price shops owned by the Tamil Nadu Government.

The state government distributes such gift hampers every year ahead of Pongal, which is usually celebrated on January 14, to enable people from the lower sections of the society to enjoy the festival, it said.
