Kochi: Kingpin of int'l human trafficking ring arrested

Kochi: The Ernakulam Rural District Crime Branch on Saturday arrested a major link of an international human trafficking racket.

According to the officers of Ernakulam Rural Police, Sumit Baruah, 42, a native of Telangana was the arrested.

Recently, three Bangladeshi natives who attempted to flee to Serbia via Dubai from Hyderabad airport using Indian passports were held at Dubai and sent back to Nedumbassery. The three were handed over to Ernakulam Rural Crime Branch for further investigation.

As per the directions from Rahul R nair, District Police Chief, Ernakulam Rural, a special team headed by DySP K S Udayabhanu was constituted and began an investigation. "The investigation revealed that several Bangaldeshi natives were entering India via Denapur forest and flying to abroad using fake documents after reaching Hyderabad," an official said.

Besides, the investigators received clues regarding an agent of the racket supplying Indian passports, ID cards and Aadhaar cards. An investigation based on the agent led to the arrest of Baruah, who was a main agent, police said.
